Mark your calendars! The full lineup of finalists will be unveiled during a live TV broadcast on January 14th. And the music doesn't stop there! From January 15th to 23rd, each entry, complete with its music video, will be released individually.
This year's UMK saw a record-breaking number of submissions – a staggering 491 songs were thrown into the mix! This just shows how much talent Finland has to offer.
UMK 2026 itself is scheduled for February 28th, taking place at the Nokia Arena in Tampere. The winner will then have the honor of representing Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, which will be held in Austria.
To give you some context, Erika Vikman represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with her song “Ich komme”. Finland secured 11th place in the final, earning a total of 196 points. They received the coveted 12 points from the Austrian jury and 10 points from the public votes in Sweden, Australia, and Estonia.
Finland's Eurovision journey began way back in 1961, debuting alongside Spain and Yugoslavia. They've had their share of ups and downs, including finishing last a whopping 10 times and receiving 'nul points' on three occasions. But, the Finns finally tasted victory in 2006, when Lordi rocked the stage in Athens with “Hard Rock Hallelujah,” scoring a then-record 292 points.
